A patient is on Fire Ant IT at maintenance. She was recently stung twice with only local reactions. She wanted to know if the stings would replace the shot for this time. I cannot find this addressed in the practice parameters. What should I tell her?

Thank you for your inquiry.

The fire ant sting does not replace a fire ant injection in the course of immunotherapy. The injection is a measured dose whereas there is no way to know how much, if any, venom she received during the sting.

Thank you again for your inquiry and we hope this response is helpful to you.
