Cross-reactivity between lupine flour, peanuts, and tree nuts

Question:

12/20/2012
Reveiwed 4/12/2018
Can lupine flour cause anaphylaxis in tree nut/peanut allergic individuals?

Answer:

Thank you for your inquiry.

Lupine flour contains cross-reactive antigens with peanuts. In addition, patients with peanut allergy have demonstrated anaphylaxis to lupine flour (1). The reference below, which is readily available to you online, discusses the issue of cross-reactivity between lupine and peanut in great depth should you wish further information.

As far as I know, there is no antigen cross-reactivity of note between lupine flour and tree nuts.

Thank you again for your inquiry and we hope this response is helpful to you.
