Q:

7/31/2014
I am the safety nurse for a physician practice network. I have been trying to convert the practices to safety needles and was told that allergy injections require the needle to be change in between the drawing up of the serum and administering it to the patient. I cannot find any documentation to support this practice. Is there any?

A:

Thank you for your inquiry.

I am not aware of nor could I find any suggestion in the literature to change the needle on the syringe after drawing up vaccine before giving the injection to the patient. We do not do that in our practice.

Thank you again for your inquiry and we hope this response is helpful to you.

Sincerely,
Phil Lieberman, M.D.
