Epidemiology of food allergy

Summary
Dr Gideon Lack presents a concise update on the epidemiology of food allergy with a detailed discussion of the dual-allergen exposure hypothesis. This hypothesis incriminates cutaneous exposure (versus oral exposure) to foods as the cause of TH2 priming. Other hypotheses cited to explain the increased incidence of allergic disease are discussed as well. They include the dietary fat hypothesis, antioxidant hypothesis, vitamin D hypothesis, and the hygiene hypothesis.
