SELECTED ARTICLES FROM THE RECENT LITERATURE 2008 7/9/2008 Differences in the Asthma Population Treated by Allergists Versus that Treated by Pulmonologists as Assessed by TENOR Summary The intent of this study was to determine differences between allergists and pulmonologists regarding management strategy for the treatment of asthma, and the differences between patient populations treated by both. To do this, they utilized TENOR data obtained from evaluating 3,342 adults with asthma. In TENOR, 2,407 patients (72%) were treated by allergists and 935 (28%) by pulmonologists. They concluded that, "In general, asthma patients treated by pulmonologists have lower socioeconomic status, have more severe disease, require more medication, and report greater health care use than those treated by allergists."
