Preseasonal Cluster Immunotherapy for Pollen Allergy Undergoes a Renaissance
Summary
The authors of this abstract are located in two different countries - Spain and Germany. They investigated the use of glutaraldehyde coupled grass pollen given as preseasonal immunotherapy. Thirty-three patients were evaluated. Patients underwent pre and post nasal challenge with grass pollen. A placebo control group was utilized. Patients underwent 2.3 months of treatment. The threshold dose for nasal challenge decreased significantly in the treated group compared to the placebo group.
The authors concluded that short-term immunotherapy with this extract was successful in reducing the reactivity to intranasal pollen challenge.
