An Invaluable Resource for Alternative Therapies in the Treatment of Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria
Summary
This review was based on a Medline search. It deals in detail with alternative therapies (other than antihistamines) in the treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria. It discusses the following alternative treatments: leukotriene modifiers, dapsone, sulfasalazine, olsalazine, hydroxychloroquine, colchicine, calcineurin inhibitors including cyclosporin and tacrolimus, mycophenolate, and corticosteroids. It has a table (pages 405 and 406) which is invaluable as a brief summary of the potential side effects, tests required for monitoring, and dosages utilized for the treatment of chronic urticaria in regard to the above mentioned drugs.
